Micaela Cloete’s map of South Africa represents the rich cultural diversity of the country known as the rainbow nation. Her drawings of traditional attire, homes, and musical instruments reflect some of the many cultures. The springbok and the national flower, The King Protea, are examples of the natural beauty that South Africans love and respect. The map also depicts images of historical leaders such as Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu, and the colors of the democratic South African flag. The cave paintings on the map pay tribute to the civilizations that once lived in South Africa. The map was created using ink pens and soft pastels and further edited digitally to create collages and patterns.
