George Mkumbula’s map depicts each of the regions of Malawi, which are divided into districts run by traditional authorities (chiefs). There are about nine major ethnic tribes in the country. Each tribe maintains its traditional culture and customs, including dances and art. In this map, Mkumbula identifies the regions by name and each district by a colored shape. The background of the map is illustrated with artifacts and living things found in rural Lilongwe. This brightly colored map celebrates the cultural diversity of Malawi.
